President's Message
Vidya Nand
What a great way to begin a new Rotary year!
Thanks to everyone who came and supported us, it was an amazing changeover with great company, food and delightful dancing.

A few thank you’s –
  • Harjeet for organizing this group of young girls.
  • Lorraine for her hard work to make the evening a memorable one with Joyti, Rajiv and Harjeet by her side.
  • I wish to thank each one of you who supported the changeover by their attendance or helping on the night – our combined efforts made it a great night
  • To all the raffle contributors, and raffle ticket sellers for job well done

We had 125 guests including members, former members, other Rotary Clubs,
Friends, large number of dignitaries and family. This was a platform to SHOW OFF our club in action, activities, diversity, fundraisers, member commitments and contributions.  All the attendees and dignitaries gave their blessings and good wishes.

This sets the tone for the rest of the year. It builds an image of the active, achieving club that we are in the outer circles and hopefully a room for some new members or external participation in our activities. A few clubs have given an intention to work with us in various community and vocational projects.

I would like to congratulate all the Paul Harris Fellows for their well-deserved achievements.

Looking ahead, I am delighted and blessed with a very committed Board, committee
and club members. As in the past years we will strive for success, fun and fellowship, we will support each other, acknowledge each other, have a healthy discussion and build relationships to keep the image of the club intact

Your support is vital for progress and a open healthy dialogue will help in the growth of
our 25-year-old club.
Thank you and see you on Wednesday.

Vidya Nand
President

20200706 Robin Staples joins our Club
A warm welcome to a long time partner of our club to our club!
Robin Staples recently retired principal of South Cross Campus School Mangere has joined our club.

Robin Staples has recently retired as Principal of Southern Cross Campus School Mangere, a composite Year 1 to 13 students where he served from 2007 to 2020.
He has a Master of Educational Administration with (Honours) from Massey University and a Trades Certificate in Farm management, from a four year detour into the rural sector.

Robin has been a Principal for the last 22 years with a leadership background in large composite urban schools. He was instrumental in the bringing together of Clydemore Primary School, Bairds Intermediate School and Hillary College into what became Sir Edmund Hillary Collegiate Otara.

As a teacher and subject association leader, he was awarded the Jim Campbell Award, for inauguration of the first conference for the New Zealand Association of Mathematics teachers in 1989.  Since then he has continued to focus on raising student achievement, especially in low decile communities.

He is currently Lead Principal of the Resource Teachers for Learning and Behaviour Cluster for Mangere and Otahuhu, Trades Academies development, and is active in the AimHi schools forum. He is a trustee for Kokako Lodge Trust (an outdoor education centre in the Hunua Ranges) and DayStar Early Learning Centre in Mt Eden.

Robin is married to Irene (who is with us tonight) and with her considerable parenting skills, raised six children. Most of the children are married but all have left items stored at home, as they do. He currently has ten grandchildren.

He is a past Rotarian so he already knows a lot about Rotary.
Most of our Club members already know Robin from our involvement with various projects we have been doing for Southern Cross Campus School for over 15 years now.
We are very honoured to have Robin join our Club.
